Easy apple fruit crisp

Ingredients

  • 5 cups apples, peeled and cored and sliced
  • 3 tbsp white sugar
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg, ginger, or cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup margarine (or butter)
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (or coconut)
  • vanilla ice cream (or whipped topping) (optional)

Directions

  1. For filling: place sliced apple pieces in an 8″ × 1-1/2" round baking dish. Stir in sugar.

  2. For topping: in a mixing bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, flour, and nutmeg / ginger / cinnamon. Cut in margarine or butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in nuts or coconut. Sprinkle topping over filling.

  3. Bake in a 375F oven for 30 to 40 minutes or until fruit is tender and topping is golden. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped topping, if desired.
