Mrs. Tropp’s Cholent

Ingredients

  • 5 medium pealed potatos
  • 1 cup brown rice
  • 1/2 cup barley
  • 1/4 cup kidney beans
  • 1/2 white navy beans or pinto beans
  • 1flanken or california steak
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/2+ tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp (tbs) garlic powder
  • lots paprika
  • ketchup or non hickory bbq sauce

Directions

  1. in a 5qt crockpot add ingredient up to flanken.

  2. fill 3/4 of pot with water.

  3. add salt pepper garlic and paprika (paprika should cover the top).

  4. add swirl or two of ketchup.

  5. put on high. before shabbos put to low. must cook on high 5-6 hours.

  6. when making veggie add half package sliced muchrooms 1TBS and 1 tsp of soy sauce, 2 TBS oil. and 1 teaspoon of onion soup mix.

  7. when making half use 5 cups of water and ~1.5 lb of beef. can also omit potatoes
