Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 1/4 cup chopped pitted dates
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup chopped nuts
- For dough:
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 3 eggs
- 4 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Directions

Prepare the filling. Cook the first 4 ingredients on high until the mixture boils. Turn to low and continue to cook for 5 minutes

Prepare the dough.

Cream the shortening and brown sugar

Add the eggs and beat well.

Add sifted dry ingredients.

Divide dough into equal parts and roll out to 1/4" thick.

Spread each piece with filling

Roll and chill in refrigerator overnight

The next day, cut into 3/8" pieces and bake on greased cookie sheet until brown.
