Ingredients

  • DOUGH:
  • 2 cups Water (lukewarm)
  • 1 pkg Yeast
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1.5 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 cup Shortening
  • 1 Egg
  • 7 cups Flour (sifted)
  • CINNAMON FILLING:
  • 1/2 cup Butter, melted or softened
  • 1/2 cup Firmly-packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup White sugar
  • 4 tablespoons Ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of ground cloves

Directions

  1. Night Before:

  2. Dissolve yeast in water for 5 minutes

  3. Mix yeast mixture, sugar, salt & shortening.

  4. Stir in egg.

  5. Mix in 3 cups flour.

  6. Add remaining flour.

  7. Put in well greased bowl and cover.

  8. Put in refrigerator to rise over night.

  9. Morning:

  10. Roll out on floured board.

  11. Spread the softened butter over the surface of the dough, leaving a 1-inch strip along the long edge of the rectangle furthest away from you completely dry.

  12. Generously sprinkle cinnamon-sugar over the butter, spreading the mixture evenly across the whole sheet of dough. Leave the 1-inch border free of sugar.

  13. Roll up and cut 1" thick and put in greased pan.

  14. Let rise until double.

  15. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes.

  16. Drizzle with a powdered sugar frosting while rolls are still hot.
