Tarka Dhal

Ingredients

  • Heaped half cup dried yellow split peas, 1 cup chicken stock, 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1 cinnamon stick, 1 tsp cumin, 2bay leaves, pinch cayenne, 1/2 onion chopped, ground ginger, salt, 2 garlic cloves, 1/2 tsp garam masala, some cherry tomatoes, 1 dsp butter, 1

Directions

  1. Rinse peas in cold water. Place in pan and cover with stock stir and bring to the boil. Skim off froth with a spoon. Reduce heat to simmer, add cinnamon, bay leaf, turmeric, cayenne and ginger and cover. cook for 30 min.
  2. Heat water over medium add cumin, onion, chilli, garam and salt for 5 min. Add garlic and tomatoes and ground coriander and simmer for 10 min. Remove cinnamon and bay leaf from peas. Add mixture to peas stir and let cook for 2 min before seasoning and serving.
