Low-Calorie Maple Syrup

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 5 Tbsp. sugar
  • pinch salt
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 2 tsp. maple flavoring

Directions

  1. Combine cornstarch, sugar, salt and water in small saucepan; mix well.
  2. Cook mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until syrup thickens and bubbles. Lower heat; simmer 1 minute. Remove from heat; stir in maple flavoring.
  3. Low-calorie honey syrup: Substitute 1/4 cup honey for the sugar and omit the maple flavoring.

  4. Makes 1 cup-18 calories per tablespoon.

  5. Ten-calorie Maple syrup: Reduce sugar to 2 1/2 tbsp. After removing syrup from heat, stir in sugar substitute to equal 4 Tbsp. sugar.

  6. makes 1 cup-10 calories per tablespoon

  7. Pineapple or orange Pancake sauce-

  8. Substitute unsweetened pineapple or orange juice for the water and reduce the sugar to 2 Tbsp.

  9. makes 1 cup- 13 calories per tablespoon.
