Aunt Jane’s Soda Biscuits

don’t know who told them Southern biscuits are thin, but here it is.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp. Arm & Hammer baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup sweet milk

Directions

  1. Sift flour, baking soda and salt together.
  2. Cut in shortening.
  3. Add vinegar and milk and stir lightly.
  4. Turn onto floured board and knead lightly.
  5. For Northern style- roll about 1/2 inch thick; Southern style- roll 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Cut biscuits (prick with a fork for southern style?)
  7. Place on greased baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 450 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
  9. makes 16-18 2-inch Northern Style biscuits

  10. or 32-34 2-inch Southern style biscuits?
