Kolaches

Ingredients

  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 3 packages yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 8 cups unsifted flour

Directions

  1. Pour boiling water over shortening, sugar and salt; stir until melted.

  2. Add milk and mix until cool.

  3. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup water.

  4. Allow to soften and mix well.

  5. Add to shortening mixture and mix well.

  6. Add eggs and beat well 1 minute by hand or 1/2 minute with electric mixer.

  7. Stir in 4 cups of flour which makes a soft dough.

  8. Let stand 10 minutes.

  9. Then add remaing flour.

  10. Place in buttered pan, brush top with butter and cover with damp cloth. Allow to rise twice.
