Almond Crunch Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 stick (4 oz.) salted butter, at room temperature
  • 1/2 tsp. lemon zest
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/3 cup plus 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 Tbsp. milk
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Line and grease 9 inch square baking pan.

  2. In food processor, pulse first 4 ingredients and 1/3 cup sugar 5 times, or until dough forms; press into pan. Brush dough with milk.

  3. In food processor, pulse almonds, cinnamon and remaining sugar 2 times; press into dough.

  4. Bake 20 minutes, or until lightly browned. While still warm, cut into squares. Let cool.
