Apple Betty

Ingredients

  • 6 tart apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1 Tbsp. water
  • Grated peel and juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 cups soft bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp. butter

Directions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine apples, lemon peel, water and juice.

  2. In another bowl, combine bread crumbs, brown sugar, sugar, and cinnamon.

  3. In 9 × 5 inch loaf pan alternate layers of crumb and apple mixtures, starting and ending with crumbs. Dot with butter.

  4. Set pot on base and place metal rack in high position in pot of slow-cooker plus. Place loaf pan on rack. Cover and bake at setting #4 for 3 hours. Serve warm in dessert dishes with ice cream, if desired.
