Baked Fudge Custard

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup melted butter
  • 3/4 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped black walnuts or pecans
  • Whipping cream or ice cream

Directions

  1. In large mixing bowl, beat eggs well. Add sugar, flour, cocoa, salt, butter and vanilla. Mix until well combined. Stir in black walnuts or pecans. Pour into an ungreased 9 × 13-oinch baking dish.

  2. Place baking dish in a larger pan; set in a 325 degree oven. Pour enough hot water in larger pan to reach about 1/2-inch up on fudge mixture pan. Bake 40 to 60 minutes.

  3. The nuts will rise to the top and with the foaminess of the eggs, form a crunchy crust. The bottom will be a rich, pudding-like, chocolate custard.

  4. To serve, top with whipped cream or ice cream.
