Sicilian Tomato Sauce

  • 1 pound boneless pork, chopped into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 large cans crushed plum tomatoes
  • 1 7-ounce can tomato paste
  • 1 clove sliced garlic
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp dried basil


  1. Brown the pork in a little oil, then add the onions and cook briefly.

  2. Add in the crushed tomatoes and cook for 20 minutes.

  3. Add the tomato paste and then fill the can with water and add that to the sauce along with an additional cup of water.

  4. In a small skillet, add a little oil and the sliced garlic, brown nriefly and then add the oil and garlic to the sauce.

  5. Add the sugar, black pepper, basil, and salt to taste. Simmer for some time for flavors to blend.

  6. Serve with your favorite pasta.
