Caramel Cake/White sugar Frosting

Ingredients

  • CAKE
  • 1 C solid Crisco
  • 1 1/2 C sugar
  • 1 C water
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 C white Lily all purpose flour
  • 2 t baking powder
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1/2 t vanilla
  • FROSTING
  • 3 C white sugar
  • 1 small can evaporated milk (5 oz? is smallest can?)
  • salt-dash
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter
  • 2 T sweet milk
  • Extra 1/3 C white sugar-caramelize

Directions

  1. CAKE

  2. 325 degrees; 3 layers; Bake 20 + minutes

  3. Cream Crisco and sugar

  4. Double sift flour, salt and baking powder

  5. Add eggs to creamed mixture, onae at a time

  6. Alternate adding flour mixture and water, beginning and ending wigth dry ingredient

  7. Add vanilla

  8. Bake

  9. FROSTING

  10. Mix together sugar, evaporated milk, salt, butter, 2 T sweet milk

  11. Bring to a boil

  12. Remove from heat

  13. Caramelize additional 1/3 C sugar and add to above mixture. Put back on stove and bring to a boil and boil for 1 minute.

  14. Remove from heat

  15. ADD 1 t vanilla

  16. Now beat with hand mixer until spreading consistency
