Privacy Policy

We have developed this privacy policy as part of our commitment to integrity in dealing with our users. It is meant to explain how we collect, use and safeguard the personal information you provide to us, and to help you make informed decisions about what information you choose to give us.

What information do we collect?

When you visit our site you may provide us with two types of information: personal information you actively choose to disclose (active information) and information about how you use our site, which we collect behind the scenes on an aggregate anonymous basis as you and others browse our site (passive information).

Use of our site by people under 13

No one under 13 should give us any personal information. To learn more about protecting childrens privacy online, visit www.ftc.gov/kidzprivacy.

Active information you choose to provide

In order to become a RecipeThing user, you have to provide us with your email address and password. If you choose, you can also provide your name.

We use secure socket layer (SSL) encryption to protect the transmission of the information you submit to us when you use our secure online forms. All information you give us is stored securely.

If you choose to post information on our site, or contact us by email, snailmail or telephone, we may also keep records of that information. Please be aware that information you send via email (to anyone, not just us) is not secure.

Passive information we collect

What is a cookie?

Cookies are a feature of your web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.). They are small pieces of data that your web browser stores so that web servers can recognize what computer is accessing their site. For instance, when you log in to our site, your web browser stores a cookie on your computer that records when you logged in, so you don't have to log in again every time you move from page to page.

Our site uses cookies to collect information about how our site is used. We may also keep track of the date and time users visit, what pages they view, how much time they spend on our site, and what sites they visited just before and just after our site. If you do not wish to transmit cookie information about yourself, you may turn off the cookie function in your web browser; please consult the Help section of your browser for more information. However, if you do turn off cookies in your browser, you will not be able to sign up for an account or use any RecipeThing users-only features.

Our sites servers also automatically identify your computer by its Internet Protocol (IP) address, which is a unique string of numbers that your Internet service provider (ISP) assigns to your computer. We may use your IP address to troubleshoot server problems on our end, to administer our site, or to gather broad demographic information about our users.

How do we use the information we collect?

Broadly speaking, people we employ directly, or as contractors or agents at our direction, use active information (such as your email address) to administer our business activities, and provide customer service and support. We may use the active information you provide or the passive information we collect to contact you about changes to our site, new services, features or products we offer, or other information we think you will find valuable. We keep emails to a minimum unless you've requested them; we hate spam as much as you do.

If you do not want to receive information from us, you may opt out of doing so by sending us an email at [email protected].

We also use the passive information we collect to gather information about our users and to enhance and design our site to make it easier, faster and friendlier to use. It also helps us keep track of how many people visit our site, when they visit and how they use our service. This passive information may mean the advertising you see on our site is targeted to your user habits.

Your information in relation to other sites we link to

You may be able to access other websites by following links on our site. When you do, you are subject to their policies regarding privacy and data collection, and you should read their privacy policies to make sure you agree to them before you use or shop at those sites. We are not responsible for other sites' privacy policies.

Sharing information with advertisers or other third parties

We may disclose anonymous information about user habits, characteristics and user patterns, based on aggregate user statistics, to advertisers on our site. The parties who perform services for us (credit card processors, merchant bank, our Internet service provider) may also have access to your information in performing such services. Should we buy or sell assets of our company, another company may need to review our companys assets, including your information, to make business decisions as to whether to acquire those assets.

Sharing information with the government or as otherwise required by law

We may be required by subpoena, law or government agency to disclose both active and passive information you have provided to us.

How do we secure active information and passive information?

We secure the personal information you submit by using reasonable efforts to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure, or accidental loss or destruction of your active information and passive information. Your postings on this site and other communications you may have with us via email or snailmail may not be secure unless we advise you that security measures are in place before you send information. Therefore, if you choose to communicate with us through these means, you are assuming the risk of doing so. PLEASE do not send or post sensitive information such as credit card numbers through these insecure methods.

How to correct, delete or access your information

If you wish to access, delete or correct your information, please send us an email at [email protected].

When you use our site, it means you accept the practices set forth in this policy. We reserve the right to change this policy by posting the new version with a new effective date. If you continue to use this site after we change the privacy policy, you are indicating that you agree to the changes.
