Christmas Breakfast Strata

Ingredients

  • 1 pound sausage
  • 1 loaf bread, sliced
  • 4 cups grated cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 medium tomatoes, sliced (optional)
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 5 eggs, beaten
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoons alt
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan

Directions

  1. Brown sausage, drain grease.

  2. Add onions, cook until softened, set aside.

  3. Place a layer of bread slices into greased 9 by 13 inch pan.

  4. Sprinkle with half the cooked sausage mixture, the 1/3 of the shredded cheese.

  5. Add a second layer of bread, the remaining sausage, and another 1/3 of the cheese.

  6. Add a third layer of bread, then the remaining cheese.

  7. In bowl, beat eggs, milk, mustard, slat and cayenne.

  8. Pour over layers and cover with plastic wrap.

  9. Refrigerated 6 hours or overnight.

  10. Preheat oven to 350 degrees, arrange sliced tomatoes on top.

  11. Top that with Parmesan cheese and bake 50 to 60 minutes until puffed in the middle and knife poked in comes out clean.
