Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • 3/4 cup Crisco or veggie shortening
  • 1.25 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped nuts *(if nuts are omitted, add an additional 1/2 cup chocolate chips)


  1. Heat oven to 375F

  2. Combine shortening, brown sugar, milk, and vanilla in large bowl

  3. Beat at medium speed or stir until well-blended

  4. Beat egg into creamed mixture

  5. Combine flour, salt, and baking soda

  6. Mix into creamed mixture just until blended

  7. Stir in chocolate chips and nut pieces

  8. Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough 3 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet

  9. Bake one baking sheet at a time at 375F for 8-10 minutes for chewy cookies (cookies will appear moise, don’t overbake) or 11-13 minutes for crisp cookies

  10. Cool 2 minutes on baking sheet

  11. Place sheets of foil on countertop

  12. Remove cookies to foil to cool completely
