Strawberry Pretzel Squares

Ingredients

  • 2 cups finely crushed pretzels
  • 1/2 cup sugar, divided
  • 2/3 cup melted butter or margarine
  • 12 ounces (1 1/2 8 ounce package) Philadelphia Cream Cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup thawed Cool Whip Whipped Topping
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 package (8 serving size) Jell-o brand Strawberry Flavor Gelatin
  • 1 1/2 cups cold water
  • 2 pints strawberries, sliced

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Mix crushed pretzels, 1/4 cup of the sugar and butter.

  3. Press firmly onto bottom of 13 by 9 inch baking pan.

  4. Bake 10 minutes.

  5. Cool.

  6. Beat cream cheese, remaining 1/4 cup sugar and milk until smooth.

  7. Gently stir in whipped topping.

  8. Spread over crust.

  9. Refrigerate.

  10. Meanwhile, stir boiling water into gelatin in large bowl at least 2 minutes until completely dissolved.

  11. Stir in cold water.

  12. Refrigerate 1 1/2 hours or until slightly thickened (consistency of unbeaten egg whites).

  13. Stir in strawberries.

  14. Spoon over cheese layer.

  15. Refrigerate 3 hours or until firm.

  16. Cut into 20 squares.

  17. Variations: crushed pineapple in cream cheese, raspberries and raspberry jello.
