Green Beans in Tomato sauce

This recipe can be served as a vegetarian meal with hummous, mjadara, and pita, or as a side dish with any meat or fish.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds fresh green beans
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion, minced
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 (14 oz) can diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice

Directions

  1. Remove the stems from the fresh beans and cut in half or along the bean (french cut). Rinse well, and set aside.

  2. In a saucepan, saute the onion and garlic in the oil for a few minutes until softened.

  3. Add the green beans, tomatoes, water, salt & allspice. Bring to a boil and cover with lid tilted. Lower the heat and simmer 30 minutes or until the beans are tender/crisp. Do not overcook.
