Ingredients
- 1 c. dates, chopped
- 1 1/2 c. hot water
- 1 c. sugar
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 c. + 2 Tbsp. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 c. chocolate chips
- 1/2 c. crushed nuts
Directions

Cover dates with hot water.

Meanwhile, cream together sugar and shortening. Add eggs and dates, flour, salt, soda, cinnamon, and vanilla.

Pour in greased and floured 9×13 pan.

Combine brown sugar, nuts, and chocolate chips. Sprinkle over cake batter.

Bake at 350 for 40 minutes.
