Source: Good Housekeeping

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 lbs 90% lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 ripe avacado
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 cup alfalfa or radish sprouts
  • 1/4 cup loosely packaged fresh cilantro leaves
  • 4 multigrain hamburger buns
  • 2 small tomatoes

Directions

  1. Lightly spray ridged grill pan or skillet with nonstick cooking spray. Heat on medium until hot.

  2. Shape ground beef into eight 3 1/2 inch patties. Place cheddar in center of 4 patties, leaving 1/2-inch border around each patty’s edge. Top with remaining 4 patties and press edges together to seal burgers well. Sprinkle burgers with 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper to season both sides.

  3. Place burgers in hot grill pan, and cook 12 minutes for medium or until desired doneness.

  4. Mash avacado with lime juice and 1/8 teaspoon alt. Combine alfalfa sprouts and chopped cilantro.

  5. Serve burgers on buns with sprout and avocado mixtures. Serve tomato wedges on the side.
