Snickerdoodles

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoon cream of tartar

Directions

  1. Combine 1 tablespoon sugar and cinnamon in a small mixing bowl

  2. Set aside

  3. Preheat oven to 400 degrees

  4. Cream shortening in a medium mixing bowl

  5. Gradually add 1 1/2 cups sugar, beating well

  6. Add eggs, beat well

  7. Stir in vanilla

  8. Combine flour, baking soda, salt and cream of tartar in a medium mixing bowl

  9. Add to creamed mixture, mix well

  10. Shape dough into 1 1/2 inch balls, and roll in reserved cinnamon-sugar mixture

  11. Place 2 inches apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet

  12. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 minutes or until lightly browned

  13. Remove to wire racks to cool

  14. Yield: 2 1/2 dozen
