Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2 oz. red food color
  • 2 3/4 c. flour
  • 3/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tb. cocoa
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs and beat well. Make a paste of cocoa, food color, and vanilla. Add to mixture. Sift flour with soda and salt. Add to mixture alternately with buttermilk. Pour into three 8" layer cake pans. Bake at 375° for 25-35 minutes. Frost (see other recipe).
