Oatmeal Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 c rolled oats
  • 2 c water, boiling
  • 1 T dry yeast
  • 1 T sugar
  • 1/2 c warm water
  • 1/2 c molasses
  • 1 1/2 t salt
  • 1 T melted shortening (oil)
  • 4 1/2 c flour (use 1 c whole wheat)

Directions

  1. Combine oats and boiling water; cover and let stand 30 minutes.

  2. Soften yeast in warm, sugared water; add to cooled oats with molasses, salt and shortening.

  3. Add flour gradually; knead and let rise.

  4. Make into two loaves. put into two greased loaf pans. Let rise 1 hour.

  5. Bake at 375 for 45 minutes.
