Ingredients

  • 3 cups Corn Chex
  • 3 cups Rice Chex
  • 3 cups Wheat Chex
  • (or whatever combination of Chex cereals you like - we all like the wheat the best so I make sure to go heavy on that since Sam will pick those bits out and just eat them.)
  • 1 cup mixed nuts (no peanuts!)
  • 1 cup pretzels (I like the sticks but I don't think it matters)
  • 9 tablespoons butter or margarine (I like butter - ain't nothing like the real thing!)
  • 4-5 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (depends on how flavorful you like it and who is eating it)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt (splurge on Lawry's - it just tastes better)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Directions

  1. Some people add bagel chips or Cheezits or Goldfish – I don’t like all that junk in there (unless you use Goldfish pretzels) but that is just me.

  2. Heat oven to 250°F. In large bowl, mix cereals, nuts and pretzels. Melt butter in microwave and add seasonings. While stirring the cereal mixture drizzle liquid over it until thoroughly mixed and evenly coated. (If you have one of those gigantic ziploc bags you can add it all in there and shake it around until it gets coated, that is really the best way. I have been known to grab a few new grocery bags at the store for the purpose of mixing Chex Mix.) Put it all in a deep roasting pan – like a turkey pan – and bake for about 1 hour, maybe an hour and 15 min, stirring every 15 minutes. Let cool. Store in airtight container (like there will be any to store!) WARNING: Eating the nuts when the mix come right out of the oven, no matter how tempting, WILL BURN YOUR MOUTH!!!
