Pie Crust, Foolproof

This egg and vinegar treatment to pie crust may not appeal to those who enjoy the challenge of making the perfect crust the old fashioned way, but for those of us who hate the failure of tough, tasteless crusts, this foolproof recipe is the perfect answer!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 3/4 cups shortening
  • 1 T. sugar
  • 2 t. salt
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 T. white vinegar
  • 1 egg

Directions

  1. In mixing bowl,combine flour, shortening, sugar and salt.

  2. In a 2-cup measuring cup, measure 1/2 c. water; add vinegar and egg, mixing together with a fork.

  3. Add to flour mixture and mix lightly with a fork.

  4. Form into smooth ball; chill 15 minutes.

  5. Divide into 4 equal balls.

  6. Use immediately or freeze.

  7. If baking an empty shell, bake at 425 degrees for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
