Ingredients

  • 6 cups thinly sliced, peeled granny smith apples
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/2-1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Dash of nutmeg
  • Double-crust pie pastry
  • 1 tbsp butter

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

  2. Sprinkle apples slices with lemon juice if desired to prevent brownness.

  3. Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. (For a very juicy pie, omit the flour.)

  4. Add sugar mixture to the sliced apples; toss to coat fruit.

  5. Fill a pastry-lined 9 inch pie plate with apple mixture; dot with butter.

  6. Adjust top crust. Seal and flute edge. Sprinkle some sugar atop, if desired. Cover edge of pie with foil.

  7. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil; bake for 20-25 minutes more or till crust is golden.

  8. Cool. Serve with cool whip or ice cream if desired.
