Mom’s Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1 pound Ground Pork
  • 1 Pound Ground Veal
  • 6 Eggs
  • 4 TBSP Grating Cheese
  • Plain Bread Crumbs
  • 1 Palm full Mint
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 2.5 TSP Minced Onion
  • 2 Large cans tomato puree
  • 36 ounces tomato paste
  • Water
  • 1/4 Cup Sugar
  • 1/8 TSP Baking Soda
  • 4.5 TBSP Chopped Onion
  • 4 TSP Minced Garlic
  • Red Pepper Flakes

Directions

  1. Take your 3 LBS of ground meat

  2. Add eggs, cheese, mint and salt and pepper and onion.

  3. Mush together and add enough bread crumbs until egg is absorbed. It should not be wet.

  4. Roll meatballs using some water to smooth out

  5. In a 1 quart sauce pot empty tomato pure and tomato paste. (clean out the cans with water)

  6. Add enough water until it is just over half full.

  7. Stir until smooth.

  8. Add 2 silverware spoons salt and 1/4 cup sugar.

  9. Turn on heat and bring to full boil.

  10. When it does lower heat and add baking soda.

  11. Stir in fully and bring to full boil again, lower heat and add meatballs.

  12. In a 1 inch fry pan add oil to cover bottom.

  13. Add chopped onion and garlic.

  14. Brown quickly and add red pepper flakes. (be careful – this burns easily)

  15. Add contents of the pan to the sauce.

  16. Boil water in pan to clean out pan and add that to sauce.

  17. Bring sauce to a full boil again.

  18. Cook for 6 hours
