Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup ice water
  • 9 large apples
  • Fruit Fresh
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1/2 stick unsalted butter

Directions

  1. Prehat oven to 425.

  2. Sift flour, salt and baking powder.

  3. Using a dough blender, stir in shortening (1/2 at a time)

  4. Add ice water and toss lightly. Do not over-mix

  5. It should be the consistency of peas.

  6. Roll out the dough and cut to fit the pie pan

  7. Cut up apples into 1/4" pieces and drop into water to which you have added the fruit fresh. (Drain)

  8. Combine with the rest of the ingredients and pour into the pie crust.

  9. Place butter on top of mixture.

  10. Moisten edges of bottom crust.

  11. Top with top crust and press together.

  12. Cut slits into top pie crust to vent.

  13. Place foil around the edges and bake for 15 minutes at 425.

  14. Reduce heat to 350.

  15. Remove foil and bake for another 45 minutes.
