Apple-Almond-Cinnamon Strata

Ingredients

  • 1 lb loaf cinnamon raisin bread, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 8 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
  • 1/2 cup slivered almond, toasted
  • ground cinnamon
  • powdered sugar

Directions

  1. Spread bread pieces in a greased 3-quart rectangular baking dish.

  2. In a big bowl, beat the eggs, milk, salt, and almond extract together with a whisk.

  3. Stir in apple pie filling and half of the almonds.

  4. Carefully pour apple mixture over the bread.

  5. Press bread pieces down into the egg mixture with a wooden spoon; sprinkle with the remaining almonds.

  6. Cover and refrigerate for 2-24 hours.

  7. Bake strata in a preheated 325° oven, uncovered, for 50 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.

  8. Let stand for 15 minutes before serving.

  9. Lightly sprinkle cinnamon and/or sifted powdered sugar over the top before serving.
