Basmati Rice

(Basmati rice is an aromatic rice with a popcorn-like fragrance)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 3 cups water

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add rice, reduce heat to lowest temperature, and cover pan. Steam rice for 10 minutes. Turn off heat; keep lid on for another 10 minutes.

  2. Remove pan from heat, remove lid. Allow to dry out for a few minutes, then fluff with fork. Serve immediately or cover with lid to hold for a short time.

  3. **For brown basmati rice, use same as above, except:

  4. • Use 2 cups rice and 4 cups water

  5. Steam rice for 35 minutes (then tip pan to make sure that water is absorbed – if not, steam for another 5 minutes – if yes, then cover with lid for another 10 minutes as above).
