Ingredients

  • 3 cups halved Brussels sprouts
  • 1 tablespoon butter or 1 tablespoon margarine
  • 1 cup chopped peeled apple
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped cooked chestnuts
  • 1/2 cup vegetable broth
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste

Directions

  1. Cook the Brussels sprouts in boiling water to desired doneness; drain.

  2. In a big skillet, melt the butter over med-high heat.

  3. Add in apples and onions; cook, stirring until softened, about 4 minutes.

  4. Add in Brussels sprouts, chestnuts, broth, salt, and pepper; cook, stirring, until most of the broth has evaporated, about 3 minutes.

  5. Variation—may use apple juice instead of vegetable broth.
