Swedish Kringler

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1-2 tbsp. water
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • Icing:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 11/2 tbsp. cream (or milk)
  • 1 tbsp. soft butter
  • 2 tsp. almond extract

Directions

    • with pastry blender or 2 forks cut butter into flour until coarse crumbs form
    • sprinkle with water, work just until dough can be formed into a ball
    • press onto pastry sheet (doesn’t need to go to the edges) or form into two long strips approximately 4’ wide
    • in medium saucepan bring water and butter to boil; remove from heat
    • stir in flour, beat until smooth; beat in eggs one at a time, beating until smooth after each addition; stir in almond
    • spread over crust on cookie sheet
    • bake at 375° for 45 min; remove from oven; cool
    • combine icing ingredients and spread on top
  1. **store uncovered or loosely covered to keep flaky. Do not refrigerate.
