Real Onio Dip

Makes about 2 cups

Ingredients

  • 2T vegetable oil
  • 2 medium onions, chopped (3 cups)
  • 3/4 c mayonnaise
  • 3/4 c sour cream
  • Salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Finely chopped fresh chives for garnish

Directions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over med-low heat.

  2. Add the onion, cover; and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden, about 20 minutes.

  3. Uncover and continue cooking, stirring often, until deep golden brown, 15 to 20 minnutes. Cool completely.

  4. Mix the mayo and sour cream in a medium bowl. Stir in the onions. Season with salt and pepper.

  5. Cover and refrigerate until chilled, at least 2 hours, or up to 2 days. (If necessary, think with milk before serving.)

  6. Transfer to a serving bowl and sprinkle with chives. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

  8. Homemade or store-bought potato chips

  9. Broccoli & Cauliflower florets

  10. Carrot sticks

  11. Celery sticks

  12. cucumber slices

  13. Tiny new potatoes, cooked

  14. zucchini rounds
