Yogurt

Ingredients

  • Pour 1 gallon of milk into a large pot
  • Bring slowly to a boil, stirring constantly.
  • Boil for 10 minutes or longer.
  • Remove from heat and cool, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove about 1 cup of milk and place in a small bowl to cool faster
  • When you place a finger in the milk and can stand a count of 10, the milk is at the correct temperature to add the yeast.
  • Mix 2 large spoonfuls of Yogurt with a little milk that has been cooled separately
  • Stir with a wooden spoon, mixing well
  • Cover for 3-4 hours with towels and blankets
  • Uncover and cool for an hour before refrigerating.
  • Place a paper towel on top to absorb moisture.
  • For thicker yogurt, pass through coffee filters or cheesecloth
