Pastichio

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • Chopped onion
  • Garlic
  • Lg can Tomato sauce
  • salt, pepper and a dash of nutmeg
  • 2 pounds prepared macaroni
  • 1/2pound butter
  • 3/4cup flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 3/4quart milk
  • 2-3 egg whites
  • Romano cheese

Directions

  1. Prepare the macaroni

  2. Saute the onion and brown the ground beef

  3. Prepare the macaroni

  4. Add the spices and tomato paste

  5. Grease a2 9 × 13 pans

  6. Saute the onion and brown the ground beef

  7. Mix sauce into prepared macaroni

  8. Pour melted butter and grated Romano cheese over the pasta

  9. Add the spices and tomato paste

  10. Beat 2-3 egg whites and pour over mixture

  11. Prepare the bechamel

  12. Grease a2 9 × 13 pans

  13. Melt the butter and add the flour to form a rue, stirring quickly and constantly

  14. Heat up the milk and gradually add to the flour mixture

  15. Mix sauce into prepared macaroni

  16. Add a dash of cinnamon

  17. Stir until thickened

  18. Pour melted butter and grated Romano cheese over the pasta

  19. Pour over pastichio

  20. Dot with pieces of butter and add more grated cheese

  21. Beat 2-3 egg whites and pour over mixture

  22. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven until top is brown.
