Béchamel Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups hot milk (500 mL)
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • Pinch of nutmeg (optional)

Directions

  1. Melt the butter over low heat and add the flour all at once, stirring with a wooden spoon for 2 minutes.

  2. Slowly pour the hot milk into the butter-flour mixture and cook, whisking constantly, until the sauce is thickened.

  3. Off the heat add the salt, pepper and nutmeg.
