Mom’s Buttermilk Biscuits

(from mitchellboone’s recipe box)

Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 20 minutes
Serves 4 people

Ingredients

  • 4cups self-rising flour
  • Stick of butter
  • 2 to 2 1/4 cups buttermilk

Directions

  1. Measure in flour and then add sliced butter. Cut butter into flour.

  2. Make a well in the middle of flour and then add 1cup buttermilk in well. Take fork and begin incorporating with flour. Make another well and continue to mix until all the flour is mixed in (dough will be sticky)

  3. Pour onto well floured surface and then sprinkle a little additional flour on the top of dough. Begin to knead until dough is no longer sticky and bounces back when pressed (be careful not to add to much flour).

  4. Press dough out until about 1/2 inch thickness then use cutter to cut out biscuits. Put biscuits into greased pan side by side. Bake in 425 degree oven until raised and slightly brown on top 20-25 mins. (if biscuits are done, but top is not brown as you would like, turn on broil for a couple of min)
