Ingredients

  • 6 slices bacon , chopped
  • 3/4 lb bulk pork sausage (Jimmy Dean)
  • 1 large sweet onion , chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup light molasses
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried chipotle powder (to taste)
  • 5 (16 ounce) cans plain baked beans

Directions

  1. In a large pot, fry the bacon until it is almost crisp; remove from the pot and set aside.

  2. Add in the sausage and onion; saute, breaking up the sausage into small pieces until it is no longer pink and the onion is translucent; remove all of the fat from the pot.

  3. Add the reserved bacon, the ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, maple syrup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, vinegar, and chile powder to the pot; bring to a boil, stirring until the mixture is incorporated.

  4. Add in the beans, stirring to combine and simmer 1 hour; serve hot.
