Homemade Root Beer

(from Remorc’s recipe box)

Categories: Drinks

Ingredients

  • 5 gallons water
  • 5 lbs sugar
  • 5 lbs dry ice
  • 1 bottle root beer extract
  • (Shilling makes it , Hires used to. Its in the grocery store by vanilla and other flavorings)

Directions

  1. If I’m making 5 gallons, I use a 10 gallon drink cooler. Mix the water and sugar, add the root beer extract, throw in the dry ice and let it perk for about an hour. Usually instead of putting the lid on I duct tape a garbage bag on to the top and let it fill up with the “exhaust” and poke a couple small pen holes in it. Mostly for audience entertainment, but also to keep some kind of lid on it that won’t blow. If I’m making ten gallons, I add the last couple gallons of water after the bubbling settles down a little.

  2. When the root beer is all gone, get a spoon and enjoy the slush at the bottom.
