Indian Fry Bread

Serves 8 people

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 cup vegetable oil

Directions

  1. Mix flour, baking powder and salt.

  2. Add warm water and knead until dough is soft but not sticky.

  3. Tear off a medium size piece and shape into a ball.

  4. Pat the dough flat.

  5. Use a rolling pin to further flatten dough.

  6. Heat vegetable oil on a skillet until sizzling hot.

  7. Gently place the flattened dough into the hot oil.

  8. Remove bread when it is brown on both sides.

  9. Serve hot, plain or with powdered sugar.
