Flour Tortillas

Serves 8 people

  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 6 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 cup water


  1. Combine flour and salt. Cut in shortening. Add the water and stir up, adding more if necessary to make a sticky dough.

  2. Knead well on a floured surface and make balls the size of an egg. Let stand for 15 minutes. Roll thin with rolling pin to about the size of a salad plate.

  3. Place on ungreased skillet and cook for about 2 minutes on one side, flip and cook the other 1 more minute. Makes about 2 dozen.
