These scones are rich, soft, and sweet; perfect served with coffee for breakfast.

Serves 6 people

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup snipped raisins


  1. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter.

  2. Add beaten eggs, milk, and raisins all at once. Using a fork, stir dough together gently.

  3. Turn dough out onto a floured surface. Knead several times. Divide dough into two. Pat each section into a circle about 6 inches across.

  4. Cut each circle into 6 wedges; move to greased pan. Bake at 400 F until browned.

  5. Serve warm with butter and jelly.
