Bale Dindu/Plantain Stem Palya/Sabzi

It is a good source of dietary fiber. Since it is high in fibre, it acts as a laxative and can ease constipation.

- Banana stems juice when combined with buttermilk and had on a empty stomach helps in weight reduction. The juice has various other benefits. It is a relief for ulcers, burning sensation and acidity. Its astringent quality helps in blood coagulation.

- Banana stem is rich in potassium and thus if regularly taken, it can cure stomach pains.

Ingredients

  • Plantain Stem: 1 piece chopped finely
  • Moong dal: 1 small cup
  • Green Chillies: 3 - 4 cut lengthwise
  • Curry Leaves: 1 strand
  • Mustard Seeds: 1 tsp
  • Oil: 1/2 tbsp
  • Turmeric: 1 tsp
  • Coriander Leaves: to granish
  • Salt to Taste
  • Grated Coconut: 1 tbsp (Omit this if you are on diet)
  • Pepper powder: 1 tsp

Directions

  1. Cut the plantain stem into small pieces by remving the fibre. Put it in bowl of buttermilk to retain the color of the stem.

  2. Heat the oil in frying pan, add mustard seeds on spluttering add curry leaves, Asafoetida, green chillies, turmeric and moong dal. Add little water and close the lid. Cook moong dal for 5 mins.

  3. Once moong dal is cooked (ensure it is not too soft) add plantain stem and sprinkle some more water and cook again for 5 mins.

  4. Once the water is drained out add salt, coconut and pepper powder. Mix well.

  5. Serve plantain stem sabzi with chapati.
