Apple Custard Torte

Serves 8 people

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter - 2 sticks melted,cooled
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 4 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 3- 4 granny smith apples peeled, cored, sliced 3.4 inch thick
  • 1.2 tsp. cinnamon

Directions

  1. Dough

  2. Grease 9 inch spring form pan.

  3. Beat flour, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup butter, baking powder and 2 eggs in bowl to make smooth dough. Chill.

  4. Press dough evenly over bottom ad 2 inches up side of pan, flour fingers lightly if dough is sticky.

  5. Place apple slices in circle overlapping or stand slices in surface of dough rounded slices up.

  6. Sprinkle with cinnamon.

  7. Place on baking sheet.

  8. Bake 50 minutes at 350F. until golden brown.

  9. Leave oven on.

  10. Stir together 2 eggs. 1/2 cup of butter and 1/2 cup sugar.

  11. Pour carefully, slowly over tart. Do not let egg mixture run over sides!

  12. Bake 350F for additional 20 minutes or until custard is set.

  13. Cool on rack. Remove.

  14. To save time; Make dough 1 day ahead.

  15. Prepare apples. Put in plastic zip lock and sprinkle lemon juice over apples and refrigerate. Enjoy! Love, Oma
