Savory tart dough

Ingredients

  • 1 c and 2 T all purpose flour
  • 1 or 2 pinches salt
  • 1 T dried basil
  • 7 T unsalted butter, chilled and cut into cubes
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 3-4 T ice water

Directions

  1. Sift together flour and salt in a very large mixing bowl, add basil and blend well

  2. Make a large well in the middle, add butter, eggyolk

  3. Blend butter and egg yolk thoroughly with fingertips in the middle of the well, Mixture will become a yellow paste

  4. With a spatula, start to incorporate flour from the edges as well. Use a spatula to cut the flour into the butter mixture, Chop the flour and butter together with the spatul auntil all of the flour is incorporated and resembles large flakes.

  5. Add the water 1/2 T at a time and incorporate into the dough with your hands. Add just enough water to alow the dough to come together into a ball.

  6. Wrap in plastic and chill for about 30 min to an hour.
