Beef Stew

Serves 8 people

Ingredients

  • 2# Beef cut in cubes
  • 2 Tbs oil
  • 4 c boiling water
  • 1 Tbs lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 med onion chopped
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1-2 bay leaves
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 Tbs salt
  • Dash cloves
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 6 carrots
  • 3 potatoes

Directions

  1. Brown meat in oil, brown all sides.

  2. Add boiling water, lemon juice, Worcestershire, garlic, onion, bay leaves and seasonings.

  3. Cover & simmer (not boil) for 2 hours. Stir occasionally.

  4. Remove bay leaves & garlic.

  5. Cut up carrots & potatoes. Put in bowl, add a little water, cover and microwave 10-12 minutes.

  6. When tender, add to meat.

  7. Cook to blend flavors.

  8. Can be thickened with cornstarch & water.
