Avarekalu Saaru

Ingredients

  • . Avarekalu - Big Cup ( 200 gms)
  • 2. Onion - 1 (medium)
  • 3. Green Chillies - 5-6 nos
  • 4. Coriander leaves - chooped 1 small cup
  • 5. Ginger - 1 inch
  • 6. Salt to taste
  • 7. Jeera - 3 tsp
  • 8. Garlic - 2 pods (Optional)
  • 9. Grated Coconut - 1 small cup
  • 10. Curry Leaves - 2 strand
  • 11. Ghee - 1 tsp
  • 12. Tomato - 1 (medium)
  • 13. Turmeric - 1 tsp

  4. Avarekalu Saaru
  5. Avarekalu Saaru a delicious Saaru loved by all South Karnataka people…..Rasam is Saaru in kannada. Avarekalu Saaru goes well with Rice and even with Raggi Mudde. Avarekai is either Flat Beans or Field Beans in English. Lots of dishes are prepared with Avarekalu like upma, sambar, saaru, rotti, dosa,… A winter specialty bean generally harvested before Sankranti festival (January).

  6. Ingredients:

  7. Avarekalu – Big Cup ( 200 gms)

  8. Onion – 1 (medium)

  9. Green Chillies – 5-6 nos

  10. Coriander leaves – chooped 1 small cup

  11. Ginger – 1 inch

  12. Salt to taste

  13. Jeera – 3 tsp

  14. Garlic – 2 pods (Optional)

  15. Grated Coconut – 1 small cup

  16. . Curry Leaves – 2 strand

  17. . Ghee – 1 tsp

  18. . Tomato – 1 (medium)

  19. . Turmeric – 1 tsp

  20. Procedure:

  21. Cook Avarekalu with little salt. Keep it aside.

  22. Grind Grated coconut, jeera, chopped onion, chopped tomato, Green Chillies, Coriander leaves, and 1 laddle of cooked Avarekalu to fine paste.

  23. Heat Ghee in a Kadai, add Jeera and the grinded paste, fry for few minutes.

  24. Now add all remaining cooked Avarekalu and water, adjust the consistency and season with salt, curry leavesand tumeric. Bring it to boil.

  25. Serve hot with Rice or Raggi Mudde…………….
