Santa Face Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Jiffy icing

Directions

  1. COOKIES:

  2. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl; set aside.

  3. In mixer bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy, 3 minutes.

  4. Beat in yolks and vanilla.

  5. Add flour mixture and combine.

  6. Wrap dough in plastic wrap, chill 1 hour.

  7. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

  8. Roll out dough and use a 2 X 3 1/2 inch raindrop cutter to cut 18 cookies.

  9. Use a 1 1/2 round cuter to cut 18 cookies.

  10. Place drops and circles on separate baking sheets.

  11. Cut each circle in half and separate.

  12. Bake cookies until just golden, about 15 minutes for drops and 10 minutes for cut circles.

  13. Cool completely.

  14. Color 2/3 cup icing red and 1/4 cup each pink and blue and place in pastry bags with tips.

  15. Fill another pastry bag with 1 1/4 cups white icing.

  16. Ice tops of drop cookies with red icing and bottoms and all half circles with white icing.

  17. Allow icing to set, about 30 minutes.

  18. Adhere half ciarcles to drop cookies with icing to form a mustache.

  19. Pipe hat trim and tip with white icing.

  20. Pipe eyes and nose with blue and pink icinig.

  21. Allow icing to set completely, approx. 3 hours.
