Homemade Corn Tortillas

Serves 12 people

Ingredients

  • 2 cups masa
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup warm water

Directions

  1. IN a large bowl, combine masa and salt. Gradually add the water, kneading with dampened hands for 8 minutes or until dough is smooth but not sticky. Let rest for 30 minutes.

  2. Meanwhile, heat a medium skillet over medium high. Line a tortilla press with two squares of plastic wrap. Divide the dough into balls that are 1 to 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Place a ball between the plastic wrap, close the press, and push down lightly. Open the press, remove the tortilla, and gently toss back and forth between your hands to aerate it. Cook in skillet for 30 seconds on each side seconds on each side and set aside; reapeat with reamining dough
