Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • sugar

Directions

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar.

  2. Beat in egg, molasses and ginger.

  3. Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture.

  4. Roll into 1-1/2-in. balls, then roll in sugar. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets.

  5. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10-12 minutes or until puffy and lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool.
